April 20, 2019 La Carlota
wow hello friends!! well my teenage years are officially over :,) but its been a good run, made some good mems and now I'm pumped for a new decade! wooo! no better way to start it than living on this cute little island :))
but its been a solid week!!
-went on a nice tour of the southern parts of this island to go train in different meetings on tuesday. it was a good time.
-had exchanges on thursday! so me and sister campbell worked in La Carlota and it was SO fun. our house was all american for a night so we ate oreos and grilled cheese and spoke english ahhahaah i havent felt so american in a looong time
-holy week in the philippines is a HUGE deal. which means everyone takes off work all week. thats bad news for us though when we need to take tricycles to get everywhere. we may have ended up walking 2+ miles in the hottest time of day to get to one of our appointments. when we finally got there, they were apalled when they saw the 2 of us dripping in sweat from head to toe it was so bad hahaha.
but its been a good week!! this week it really has hit me how fast time flies. i love being a missionary. its a crazy experience and definitely absolutely nothing like i thought it would be but the best thing i could have ever done. this Easter season I've thought a lot about Christ and His sacrifice for us. But I've thought even more about His ressurrection and how because He overcame death, we have the same power to overcome anything that comes our way!!
There is a line in the Book of Mormon in 2nd Nephi and it just says "He will consecrate thine afflictions for thy gain." Which is so true! Everything we experience here will eventually be for our gain. Even if its impossible to see it that way, we just gotta trust that God's eyes can see better than ours can. But I've seen these cute filipinos trust in that promise as they go through trials ive never even imagined of. and i cant wait for the happy reunion in the next life where they don't have to worry about things like hunger or how they're gonna get enough money to pay for their transportation to get to places like school! i think the rewards in heaven for these people who just move forward in faith anyways are gonna be so so so worth any trial they ever had to experience.
but life is good and i hope things are going great over there!! miss you and love you all!!
Sister Johnson
